Rehoming a Pet?

The best way to find a new home for your pet is through friends and family. Get the word out and tell everyone you know! If a potential new owner is not someone you know closely but they have pets already, ask for a veterinary reference. Call their vet and make sure their existing animals are well-cared for. If they do not have pets already, ask for several personal references. Make sure your pet is going to a safe and loving home.

CCAR is a small rescue that is able to take in a very limited number of cats; only as many as we can get adopted. Our wait list for adult cat surrenders is typically months long. Why? Because adult cats are not adopted as often as kittens. We charge a surrender fee that varies with your ability to pay in order to help provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the animal until its new home is found. If you need to give up a pet and have exhausted all your other options, send us an e-mail including the following information:

    • Name of pet

    • Age

    • Sex

    • Color/markings

    • Size

    • Reason for surrender

    • Description of temperament/personality

    • Good with kids? Cats? Dogs?
