2018 Recap and Looking Ahead in 2019

The good news? In 2018 Camden Companions adopted out 258 felines into loving homes!  We took 459 felines for spay/neuter (including 233 feral cat trap-neuter-return surgeries).  And we finished the year "in the black" by a razor-thin margin of $17 above our total expenditures of $48,667.

The bad news? 2018 was the worst kitten season in at least the last ten years.  Other animal rescues and shelters throughout the region observed the same thing. There were so many kittens we were unable to help.  We hope that most were able to find help with other organizations or through good Samaritans, but realistically some were not rescued and will be making the 2019 kitten season as bad if not worse than 2018.

We're also having to deal with rising costs of supplies and veterinary care.  We were previously able to buy cat litter by the truckload for just a couple dollars per container, but the program ended and now we're stuck paying retail.  One of the TNR clinics we use extensively recently increased their price from $35 to $45.

What can be done?  The #1 most cost effective way to save lives is to double-down on TNR.  Even at $45 per surgery, the expense and effort is far below the ordeal of trapping, rearing, and vetting litters of feral kittens.

Are you feeding stray/feral cats in Camden, Burlington, or Gloucester counties?  If they are not fixed, NOW is the time to contact us about trap-neuter-return (TNR).  E-mail admin@camdencompanions.org to let us know what town you live in, a description of how many cats hang around, and what time of the day the cats usually show up expecting food.  Cats who are on a regular feeding schedule are usually easy to catch.  We will come to you home, safely trap the cats using humane traps, and bring them back a few days later after they are fixed and recovered from the surgery.

Foster homes are always needed!  Do you have a spare room and a little time each day to care for a litter of kittens or special needs kitty?  Your home can get a cat off the streets!  We cover all veterinary expenses plus most of the supplies, food, and litter.

Can't adopt or foster but want to help?  Your donation can help keep us rescuing for years to come.  Use the PayPal button on the left or mail a check to Camden Companions Animal Rescue, 33 Wakefield Dr., Medford NJ 08055.
